FAQ

  • A fuel cell powerpack is a power unit that enables long flight time of drones.
A fuel cell uses the chemical reaction of dividing water molecules into hydrogen and oxygen to create electricity in the opposite direction. It chemically combines the hydrogen stored in the tank and the oxygen in the air to create water and uses the energy created in the process.

  • The greatest advantage of the fuel cell powerpack is that it enables a longer flight time compared to existing batteries. A battery-powered drone can only fly for 10 to 30 minutes while a fuel cell-powered drone can fly for more than 2 hours. A longer flight time is possible with a fuel cell powerpack since its energy density is 3 to 4-fold that of a battery.
In addition, it takes only about 10 minutes or less to charge a fuel cell while it takes more than 60 to 90 minutes to fully charge a battery. The performance level of a battery-powered drone drops significantly after charging and using up the battery for more than 100 times, but fuel cell-powered drones can be used for more than 1,000 hours.

  • For within VLOS flights, fuel cell drones can be applied to areas where the value of long flight time is great, and for BVLOS flights, they can be used for various applications including logistics. These areas include infrastructure inspection, public monitoring/safety, construction & mining surveying, agriculture spraying & inspection, and distribution.
Even in the short term, the applicability seems to be high in areas like close-up photography and crack identification of transmission towers and lines, photovoltaic panel monitoring and performance inspection, forest pest monitoring and wild fire surveillance, and construction/mining site surveying.

  • When a customer orders hydrogen through online/mobile e-commerce, a fully-fueled hydrogen tank is delivered to the address of the customer and the empty tank collected within 1 to 7 days of the day of the order. The hydrogen tanks are the assets of Doosan Mobility Innovation, and the customer only orders the hydrogen gas. Besides this, Doosan Mobility Innovation strives to provide a convenient and quick hydrogen supply solution by offering various hydrogen supply options.

  • It is possible to purchase directly by contacting our headquarters in South Korea or our regional office in China or through Doosan Mobility Innovation E-Commerce. Moreover, we plan to distribute our products in the US through a reseller that is experienced in drone sale and services and that has a nation-wide network, which we will appoint in the first quarter of 2019. If you wish to consult with us regarding any test or business matter, please contact us at Sales.dmi@doosan.com.

  • Doosan Mobility Innovation is a mobile fuel cell company established in the Republic of Korea in December 2016. Currently, Doosan operates the business of manufacturing fuel cells for power generation, residential use, or buildings in the US and Korea with a revenue size of USD 500 million, and through this, it has developed miniaturized mobile fuel cells based on the fuel cell technologies it has accumulated in the past decades. And with the first applied item, we have entered the drone market, which is currently the most promising market around the world.

  • Its main business model is the sale of its main product, which is the commercial drone fuel cell powerpack. It can be both a product for the end consumer or a B2B product customized for companies that manufacture or utilize drones. We want to provide customers with long-endurance solutions through sourcing or external cooperation with drone and related software companies.  Furthermore, we plan to have a business model that provides differentiated customer value by offering a digital platform for BVLOS drone flight in the future and easy and quick hydrogen supply.

  • The UAV industry requires high energy density. A fuel cell drone has an advantage in this industry as its energy density is 3 to 4-fold that of a battery drone. Furthermore, the drone market is currently the most promising market that has recently been formed and is expected to grow significantly.
