Doosan Mobility Innovation (DMI) will develop a maritime control solution using hydrogen drones that can fly over two hours.
DMI announced on the 19th that it has signed an MOU with Marineworks, an ICT company specializing in shipbuilding and marine engineering, to develop a maritime solution using hydrogen drones.
Marineworks is a company that supplies navigation control and smart vessel management solutions by localizing Electronic Chart Display and Information System (ECDIS), which displays all information related to maritime navigation.
The two companies will develop the technology to help safe navigation by providing images collected and analyzed by hydrogen drones for use in the electronic navigational chart master. In the past, it was difficult for vessels to precisely capture illegal vessels that do not show on radar, but through real-time monitoring of images collected by hydrogen drones, vessels will be able to identify illegal vessels on a timely manner and take proactive safety measures.
Doo Soon Lee, CEO of DMI said, "Drones are much more useful in offshore activities such as maritime control as it is easier to control and operate than helicopters." He added, "We hope to contribute to the safe and efficient navigation of vessels by integrating Marineworks' maritime control technology to hydrogen drones that can fly long hours."
This partnership has also triggered DMI to start a new project on the development of hydrogen drones for maritime control, which can withstand strong ocean winds and safely takeoff from and land on vessels. DMI plans to continuously expand the use of hydrogen drones for various applications onshore and offshore, including patrol, security, emergency search and rescue, and logistics.
