Doosan Mobility Innovation, Signs MOU for 'Liquid Hydrogen Aviation Mobility Joint Development'
- Expected development of diverse hydrogen drone solutions with more than double the flight time.
2023.09.14
On September 14th, Doosan Mobility Innovation (hereafter referred to as DMI) announced that it had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with ILJIN Hysolus for 'Liquid Hydrogen Aviation Mobility Joint Development' at KINTEX in Goyang City, Gyeonggi Province, where 'H2MEET' took place.
According to this agreement, ILJIN Hysolus will develop a liquid hydrogen storage module and fuel control system for DMI's hydrogen drones. DMI will provide the hydrogen drone body and develop a user interface (UI) that can monitor the state information of the liquid hydrogen storage module in real time by integrating it with its independently established Ground Control System (GCS) technology. Both companies also agreed to collaborate on future product certifications and commercialization.
Liquid hydrogen is a state of gaseous hydrogen liquefied at an ultra-low temperature of -253°C. Its volume is reduced to 1/800th compared to gaseous hydrogen, making it advantageous for transportation and storage. The pressure of the container holding liquid hydrogen can be maintained stable, even if it's significantly lower than that of gaseous hydrogen.
A DMI official mentioned, "With the same-sized storage tank, the storage amount of hydrogen and flight time will increase by more than double compared to the current, leading to the development of a variety of hydrogen drone solutions." Furthermore, ILJIN Hysolus is a hydrogen fuel tank specialist within the ILJIN Group. They can produce a 'Type 4' fuel tank, which is made of non-metallic materials like plastic and wrapped with carbon fiber. This is currently considered the most advanced technology.
